Online Music Composer: Expert Recommendations

In this digital age, more and more people are turning to the internet as a medium to express themselves. Some people are writers and bloggers, others like to post their photographs to Flickr, and still others gather on social music websites to share their favorite songs. Just recently I have seen the emergence of social music composer or social music producing websites. On these websites, the site usually offers its own online music composer so that there is a standard set for the people sharing songs… if everybody makes songs with the same tools, there is a ‘standard’ of sorts for people to compare the songs. This creates an even playing field of sorts and gives beginners the chance to show off their creations and even sell them to aspiring artists, or even established ones. Somebody has told me that a website called Beatport is a pretty good online music composer, although I have not tried it myself. They seem to have a pretty decent online music composer, but so far it does not seem like any kind of “social music composer” website. These types of websites are more community oriented where something like Beatport seemss to be more individual … Read more

Great Moments In Opera, Lohengrin’s “Wedding March” By Wagner

Richard Wagner’s “Lohengrin” is a love story between Elsa of Brabant and a knight from a distant land by the name of Lohengrin who appears on a lake guided by a swan to defend the honor of Elsa, whose brother Telramund is demanding she hand over her land. It is as soon as he appears however that Lohengrin offers his services yet there is a condition which he insists upon. This being that Elsa never ask either his name or where it is that he comes from, to which she gladly agrees to in order to obtain the defense of the one she hopes will be her knight in shining armor.   Lohengrin then proceeds to defeat Elsa’s brother Telramund in combat though he spares him his life; after which Elsa consents to marry Lohengrin. It is at that moment (at the start of the 3rd act) as Elsa is making her way to the alter that the opera’s wedding march and Bridal chorus is heard; as Elsa comes to the man she is hopeful of marrying. It being this music which captures Elsa’s beauty and all the lovely features that have drawn Lohengrin toward her, as … Read more

Search and Rescue vs LeadingOrganizing a Test Effort

I recently said goodbye to one project and hello to another. With this change my mind shifts to how I organize and lead this new project. For some time now I’ve been trying to find my “style” when it comes to leading and organizing the testing project for which I’m responsible. I work in a very small team, some of that team is in experienced and often contracted/short term. Further its not usual for me to play a duel role of test lead and senior tester. These things alone make organizing a project a challenge but when you mix complex software and short time lines things can get down right overwhelming. For past projects I have always started strong with what I thought was a clear vision and focus, but after the twists and turns I began to loose my way and my focus. I found myself and the team testing for testing sake. While we were providing information for our stakeholders it didn’t feel like we were moving forward. This has become a point of frustration for me. So during a long drive last weekend to visit relatives I started thinking about what I could do differently to maintain … Read more
